Mil Spasov

Founding Partner

Mil Spasov bridges the gap between high-level retail strategy and real commercial execution. As Founding Partner of MV Retail Advisory, Mil brings more than two decades of senior leadership across Australia's most competitive retail organisations — including Bunnings, Sigma Pharmaceuticals, Officeworks, and BCF.

At Officeworks, Mil held a series of buying and merchandising roles before becoming Head of Merchandise | Global Sourcing and QA/QC, where he oversaw international supplier networks, private label development, product compliance, and sourcing strategy. At Sigma Pharmaceuticals, he served as National Private Label Manager, managing the Amcal and Guardian pharmacy ranges nationally. At BCF (Super Retail Group), Mil served as General Manager of Merchandise Planning, leading large-scale demand and supply planning, inventory optimisation, and merchandise strategy across a national retail network.

Throughout his career, Mil has led complex negotiations with global brands including Apple, Samsung, Canon, Sony, HP, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson. His expertise spans sourcing, merchandising strategy, private label development, supply chain design, and retail commercial strategy.

Mil is also the founder of EMPULSE®, a sustainable custom apparel brand built on a zero-waste, made-to-order production model, and serves as a Non-Executive Director of the Timor Leste Hearts Fund.

Outside the boardroom, Mil is a lifelong martial artist. He teaches karate at a Melbourne martial arts school, focusing on student development, continous improvement, and resilience. The discipline, focus, and mental toughness forged in the dojo continue to shape his leadership philosophy.

With more than twenty years of senior leadership across FMCG, Pharmacy, Fresh Produce, and eCommerce, Victor has built and led high-performing retail portfolios at Target, Coles, Priceline, and TerryWhite Chemmart — some of Australia's most competitive retail environments.

At Coles, Victor helped commercialise Australia's first mainstream Low FODMAP supermarket ranges and led the Health Foods category reset, repositioning it alongside Fresh Produce in a supermarket blueprint that remains embedded nationally today. As Head of eCommerce Trade at Target Australia, he directed a $350M+ online retail business generating over $200M in operating profit — delivering record performance during Black Friday 2023.

Across his career, Victor has specialised in category transformation, supplier ecosystem development, and data-driven retail strategy — building supplier networks of more than 200 partners in high-growth environments and consistently converting customer insight into measurable retail outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We provide end-to-end retail and M&A deal origination advisory for consumer brands and founders. Our six core services span retail market entry and negotiation, outsourced account management, global sourcing and private label development, buying, planning and pricing architecture, strategic oversight and business optimisation, and M&A deal origination — identifying businesses for sale, connecting them with the right buyers, preparing them commercially, and supporting negotiations. We also offer adjacent services through trusted partners in web design, CRM, and commercial property and asset finance.

  • The first step is a complimentary consultation so we can understand your business, growth ambitions, and retail objectives. Following that, we conduct a structured strategic discovery session to assess your current capability, commercial architecture, and retail readiness. From there, we develop a tailored roadmap outlining the commercial and operational steps required to accelerate your path to shelf.

  • We are built from the inside of retail. Unlike traditional consultants, we have led national divisions, negotiated with major buyers and suppliers, structured supply chains at scale, and managed P&Ls in some of Australia's most competitive retail environments. Our advice is grounded in real execution experience, supported by long-standing networks across retailers, suppliers, and capital partners.

  • Yes — though our role is specific and deliberate. We are not a business broker or investment bank. We identify consumer businesses that are a strong fit for acquisition, prepare them commercially to maximise what a buyer will see and value, and connect them with the right prospective buyers from our network. We then support both parties through negotiations. Capital structuring, legal, and financial due diligence are handled by specialist partners we refer and coordinate with — ensuring every party has the right expertise at the right stage.

  • The earlier the better — ideally 12 to 24 months ahead of your target date. Much of the value we add happens before a buyer ever sees your business: closing commercial gaps, strengthening the retail channel story, improving margin quality, and ensuring the business is positioned to attract the right acquirers rather than just any acquirers. We can also engage closer to market if the business is already well-positioned. Either way, the earlier we are involved, the more we can influence the outcome.

  • Our pricing is structured based on scope, complexity, and engagement duration. We offer project-based advisory, retained strategic partnerships, and performance-aligned commercial engagements where appropriate. Following an initial discussion, we provide a clear proposal with defined deliverables and outcomes.

  • Direct, collaborative, and outcome-focused. We operate as an embedded commercial partner rather than an external consultant. Expect structured frameworks, clear accountability, rapid decision-making, and practical execution support designed to convert opportunity into scalable, profitable growth.

  • Submit an enquiry via the contact form on our website with a brief overview of your business and growth objectives. We respond within 24 hours to discuss next steps. Alternatively, you can reach us directly at info@mvretailadvisory.com.au or call 0431 573 139.
